On May 17, nearly a month after the explosion at the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, NASA captured this real-color image from a satellite observatory. Oil slicks are not usually noticeable on satellite images, but on this particular day the oil was reflecting sunlight in just the right direction.
